In a shocking and tragic incident, J.S. Chandramouli, a retired State Bank of India employee and a respected resident of Vizag, was among the 26 tourists and civilians who lost their lives in a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir on April 22, 2025.
The 68-year-old had travelled to Kashmir as a tourist, accompanied by his wife and two other families from Visakhapatnam. According to his brother-in-law, B.V.S. Nageswara Rao, DSP of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, A.P. Police posted in Vizag, a total of six members from their group had gone on the trip.
The peaceful journey took a horrifying turn when militants opened fire in Pahalgam, leading to chaos and tragedy. The attack is claimed by The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
“As soon as the shooting started, everyone scattered to save themselves. In the confusion, my brother-in-law was separated from the group,” said Mr. Nageswara Rao. “Till late at night, we couldn’t find him and hoped he was taken to a hospital. His phone was unreachable, and we feared the worst.”
Eventually, his body was found and identified, confirming the family’s worst nightmare. However, his wife, J. Naga Mani, and the other members of the group are reported safe.
This tragedy has sent shockwaves through Vizag, as the local community mourns the loss of a kind and humble citizen. Chandramouli garu was not only a dedicated banker but also a beloved figure among his neighbors and friends.
This incident once again brings into sharp focus the fragile situation in Kashmir, and the need for stronger security measures to protect innocent lives.
